Understanding Stripe Payouts: How and When You Get Paid

Learn how and when your money moves from a customer’s payment to your bank account through Stripe. As a vendor on our marketplace, it’s important to understand how payouts work so you can manage your cash flow with confidence. Here’s a breakdown of what happens behind the scenes when a customer books your listing.

💳 Payment vs Payout: What’s the Difference?

  • Payment: This happens when a customer checks out and their card is charged. The money is held securely by Stripe, our payment processor.

  • Payout: This is when that money is transferred from Stripe to your bank account.

Payments are immediate, but payouts are held until certain booking or purchase conditions are fulfilled. This ensures secure and fair transactions for both parties.

⏱ When Will I Get Paid?

The timeline for your payout depends on the type of transaction:

🗓️ Calendar Booking Listings

  • Your payout is triggered 2 days after the booking ends.
  • Example: If a customer books you from Monday to Wednesday, your payout will be initiated on Friday.

📦 Product Purchases

  • The payout is triggered when the buyer marks the order as received, or *nAutomatically 14 days after you mark the order as shipped or delivered.

🔄 Payout Process

Once the payout is triggered:

  • 1 Stripe begins transferring funds to your connected bank account.
  • 2 This transfer can take 5–10 business days.
  • 3 Additional bank processing time might apply before it shows up in your balance.

💡 You can check your payout status in Stripe under: Payments > Payment Details > Transfer Destination > Payouts Tab to see the estimated arrival date.

⚠️ Important: Set Payouts to Manual in Stripe

Our platform automatically triggers your payouts based on your transaction flow. To work correctly with Stripe, you must set your payouts to “Manual” inside your Stripe account.

Go to: https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/payouts And set the payout schedule to Manual.

If it’s set to “Automatic,” your payouts may not process properly through Sharetribe.

❌ What Happens If a Payout Fails?

If your payout fails (e.g., due to incorrect bank details), Stripe will notify you. You’ll need to:

  • Update your bank details
  • Retry the payout manually (or wait for the next automatic cycle if fixed)

💼 Platform Commission Payouts

If you're a marketplace admin or operator:

  • Your commission is available immediately after a customer's payment.
  • Funds are sent to your platform balance and can be withdrawn based on your payout rules.
  • Keep a minimum balance in Stripe to cover potential refunds or disputes.

🏁 How to Add or Update Your Bank Details for Stripe Payouts

To get paid, you need to connect your bank account to Stripe. It’s simple and secure.

#📍 Step-by-Step: Adding Your Bank Details

1 Log in to your Vendor Dashboard.

2 You will be prompted to set up your payout account if you haven’t already.

Follow the Stripe Connect flow. You’ll be redirected to a Stripe-hosted page where you’ll:

  • Enter your personal or business info
  • Add your bank account details
  • Submit a valid government-issued ID
  • Complete any other required KYC (Know Your Customer) steps

3 Submit and return to the marketplace. Once completed, you’ll be brought back to your dashboard.

4 Wait for verification. Stripe will verify your identity and account. This may take a few minutes to a couple of hours.

🛑 Important: Make sure your bank account details are correct. Incorrect entries may cause payouts to fail or be delayed.

🛠️ Need to Update Your Bank Details Later?

1 isit your vendor settings on the platform. 2 Click “Update payout information”. 3 This will re-open the Stripe onboarding flow for editing your bank details.

💡 You can always access your Stripe dashboard directly at https://dashboard.stripe.com to manage more advanced settings.

✅ Once Setup is Complete:

  • You’ll start receiving payouts as soon as bookings complete.
  • You can track all your payments and upcoming payouts directly from your Stripe dashboard.
